hendrikboom at 03:41pm on 29/07/2008Unitarians are often accused of having no definable faith, or of worshiping God, except for leaving God out of the service, and so they can't really be said to be worshiping either.
But really, belief in God, or disbelief is not what we are about.
As a group, we believe in religious freedom, not in a particular version of religion. It would seem that this is a motherhood issue these days, but it is not so.
My heart goes out the members of the Tennessee Valley Unitarian-Universalist congregation. Recent events there make it plain that supporting religious freedom still costs lives.

Upon hearing the news, a few of my correspondents with Unitarian sympathies have announced that they plan to start attending regularly or sign up for formal membership. It's the martyrdom effect, I suppose. But this is not the church's preferred way to gain members (or lose them).
